FAQs

How are Second Life Rings made?

Second Life Rings are made completely by hand. Each piece of flatware is first inspected to ensure quality. Then the spoon, fork, etc. is measured to your specific size as requested. After that, it is cut, filed and sanded down so that raw edge now has a smooth and softer feel. Finally, it is bent into your ring!

*Important things to note:

Each ring is different and made from vintage flatware. This means that no two rings are alike, and because of this they won't all look the same as the pictures shown of the actual product. Some may have dings, scratches, marks, and show some wear.

Rings are cut and have a raw end.  They are smoothened out so that the end(s)  won’t cause any discomfort, pain, or injury when wearing. However, some discomfort and pain can occur while putting on, wearing, and/or taking off your ring, but this is normal. If it is too much you can happily send the ring back to me and I will smoothen the end(s) out more to the best of my ability. However, since this is issue will occur after the transaction, you will be responsible for the shipping costs both way: to me and back out to you.

How much does a Second Life Rings Cost?

The typical cost of a ring is $30.00 (not including tax or shipping). However, certain rings, depending on rarity and availability can cost more. Shipping costs and taxes are calculated during checkout.  Also, please note that shipping costs and taxes to those who are purchasing out of the United States will be much higher than those purchasing in the United States.

How do I choose the right size ring for me?

Finding your ring size is easy! If you have a ring already, you can simply input that size to me when ordering if you wish to have the same size. However, if you have a ring, but don’t know the size, you can easily find out by measuring the diameter of the inside of the ring with a ruler or tape measure or you can print out a piece of paper with different ring size measurements, printed to scale, and line up your ring to the appropriate size listed.  I also have a page titled Sizing Chart where you can match up your finger to your ring size.

Here are two other options in case those the previous one's don't suit you:

Option One: Go into a Jewelry Store

This is the most accurate option. Simply go into a jewelry store and ask one of them to measure your ring size for the finger of your choice. They should provide this service to you for free (it also helps if you are nice and polite).

Option Two: At Home Method

First, grab a piece of string or paper. Then simply wrap it around the finger of your choice, as tight or as loose as you wish. Next, record the length of the measurement, in millimeters or inches, where it overlaps.  Then match up the measurement you have just found with a ring size chart.

*Important things to Note:

Second Life Rings are made by hand and it is possible that your ring may be slightly bigger or smaller do to the process of forming it to your specifications. This is normal and still should fit one of your fingers. If the ring truly happens to be much larger or smaller, a half size or more, please contact me and I will happily help sort out the issue.

Where do I input my size for my ring?

You can easily input your ring size for your ring(s) on the products page before adding to your cart. Simply type the name of the ring and then immediately after type your size. Here is an example:

Size: 9

I've ordered my ring(s), how long will it take until I receive them?

Making a ring takes time, but I promise to get your order to you as soon as possible. I put my best effort into making each ring and because of this, it takes a little bit of time because I want each one to be perfect. Please note that every order placed will be shipped out in one week or less. You will be notified through the entire process and I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Will this ring turn my finger green?  Will it cause a reaction?

Proper stainless steel, which is the main material of my rings, should not turn your finger green. Even still, I cannot say with 100% certainty that my rings will not turn your finger green or cause some sort of reaction. Your own body’s response to the wearing of the ring, is unique and may be different to someone else's. With this said, I am not responsible for ANY reaction that occurs while wearing a Second Life Ring.

If you are hesitant by reading this, don't worry. Checking with one of your trusted medical professionals, such as a dermatologist or doctor, or even a family member can help you figure out if a reaction can or will occur. I always recommend checking with a medical professional first. In addition, if you use a small amount of clear nail polish on the inside of the ring it should prevent any issues of your finger turning green.  This is because the sealant of the nail polish prevents the metal from the ring from oxidizing, which prevents the result of a green color on your skin.

How do I care for my ring?

Since (most of) my rings are made from flatware such as spoons and forks, they can easily be cleaned and cared for the same way you would care for your cutlery.  Whenever you feel like it, simply apply dish soap (even hand soap) and some water to clean most dirt and grime off your ring and restore it to its new condition.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Unfortunately do to the customizability and limited availability of my rings, I do not accept returns or exchanges. The best I can do is offer to help adjust the size of your ring, where if it is a bit small then I can adjust it to make it a little bigger.  To prevent any resizing in the future, please make sure to have the correct ring size selected before placing and finalizing your order.

Of course if you ever have any questions please feel free to reach out to me and I will respond to you as soon as I can. I want to make you completely satisfied with your experience at Second Life Rings. I cannot do this without you and your support and I just want to thank you for taking the time to look at my rings and for being a customer!
